From when we were little girls, to preteens, and now adults, pain and headaches whenever we get new braids done have been a universal language amongst black women of all tribes. Don't even get me started on the first two nights of horror. No position you keep your head in can calm the raging storm in your brain, lol. Okay not funny. However In the last few months, hair makers have come up with a potential solution to braid induced headaches: Knotless braids.
Knotless braids aren't much different from the braids we've always known, except that they are less bulky. And less painful. And generally better, yes I said it. They are made just the way they are named; no knots. Rather than adding a bulk of hair extensions to the root of every braid to prevent the natural hair from peeking out, the braid is rather started with the natural hair, and extensions are added little by little, until a desirable smooth blend is achieved.
While many may argue that knotless braids do not achieve the fullness that braids are known to have, many women (me included) would trade fullness for lightness, less pain and more comfort within the first few days of a new hair-do. Moreso, unlike regular braids this holy grail allows us style our braids however we like, from day one! I don't know about you but sign me up please!
Regular braids, knotless braids. Looks are important, but comfort is too, especially in an increasingly stressful world, and I believe the latter offers both on a platter, with no hidden compromises.
